About this ebook

A love story of unexpected second chances

—When life deals an innocent a bad hand, it isn’t surprising when they want revenge. This story handles the situation in a simple fashion. Turning anger and distrust into love. Well written, and a story which leaves you wanting to read more about this family. – Voracious Reader

Diana Fulton, a young lawyer, has returned to her hometown in search of revenge, never having forgotten how she was treated as a child, tossed into the system after she and her sister became collateral in a game between two powerful men, all because of the secrets and lies of her mother.

For fifteen years, she has remembered the Friessen name, the name of her tormentors. Despite the difficult hand she was dealt, she’s planned for the day she could exact revenge. The only problem is that nothing is simple and easy, especially when it comes to getting even. When she lands on the doorstep of Jed Friessen at his rundown ranch, she finds a man who is nothing like his cousin or uncle, and she begins to question everything she once believed.

In fact, Jed shows her kindness, compassion, and something else she didn’t believe possible: that a man could truly have her back. But the feelings of anger and distrust that have driven her for so long are filled with a promise she made to herself and her sister. Can Diana put aside her hate to see that the thing she hasn’t known she’s been looking for all her life is standing right in front of her? A man who loves a woman will do anything for her, but she needs to take a chance on love.

This is a review of the audiobook. Overall: 5 Performance: 5 Story: 5 I'm loving this series! I'm moving right along, nearly binge listening to this series and loving it. Like the first book, The Forgotten Child, I really enjoyed this story but did keep in mind that it was written several years ago and I lot of things have changed in the world of romance writing. Women are now stronger and men aren't always such macho jerks, in spite of some of that it was a wonderful, romantic story. Since I've subscribed to the Audible Romance Package I'm now trying to catch up with this series and listen to the early stories in order. It's been fun finding out how the couples got together, who are the parents of the main characters in later books in the saga. Diana wants revenge for all of the wrongs done to her by Todd Friessen and his son Andy. She's come back to North Lakewood as a licensed attorney ready to dig up whatever dirt she can find to hold against them. Jed Friessen wasn't expecting this beautiful woman to be the new tenant for his rustic cottage and he certainly didn't expect to end up falling for her. Sometimes the men in this story are a bit over-the-top alpha but I like to read stories like this every now and then. They take me away from everyday stuff and just let me escape into a fantasy; even if it's not necessarily one I'd want to live out. There's a bonus short story at the end of Fallen Hero where Jed and Diana make peace with Andy and I really enjoyed it. I'm pretty picky about narrators and some of the ones for other books in this series weren't always great in my opinion. I thought Melissa Moran did a good job and got the inflections for the words right nearly all of the time. She did a good job of distinguishing between characters and didn't make her voice go up and down when it shouldn't like a lot of narrators do. I would definitely listen to more books that she narrates.

Really enjoyed the storyline. I felt the book could have been longer to give it a longer time-line as everything happened very fast. But overall I loved the characters and would definitely read another book by this author.
