THE NEW CAUTIONARY TALE OF OBSESSION, LOVE, JEALOUSY AND DECEPTION FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF OUR HOUSE AND THE OTHER PASSENGER

Wrong time. Wrong place. Wrong man.

Alex lives a comfortable life with his wife Beth in the leafy suburb of Silver Vale. Fine, so he’s not the most sociable guy on the street, he prefers to keep himself to himself, but he’s a good husband and an easy-going neighbour.

That’s until Beth announces the creation of a nature trail on a local site that’s been disused for decades and suddenly Alex is a changed man. Now he’s always watching. Questioning. Struggling to hide his dread . . .

As the landscapers get to work, a secret threatens to surface from years ago, back in Alex’s twenties when he got entangled with a seductive young woman called Marina, who threw both their lives into turmoil.

And who sparked a police hunt for a murder suspect that was never quite what it seemed. It still isn’t.

No one else could have done it. Could they?

The Only Suspect is a brilliant balanced book of twists and suspense. Louise Candlish is a talented writer who instils an undercurrent of suspicion, tension and compulsion right from the beginning. The past life of Rick and the present-day Alex is woven cleverly, hitting the mark on a detailed plot and well-timed twists and turns that had me gasping. Thank you, NetGalley & Simon & Schuster (Australia) for an ARC.

Wow!! What a book. Throughout reading I was totally enthralled. The author weaves a mind blowing narrative which plummets you into the minds of the characters, it's like you become them. I have not read anything quite like it before. Louise Candlish is a new author for me and lets just say she is definitely one of my top 5. I am already anticipating delving into her other books. The Only Suspect is written in two POV's Rick and Alex. I don't want to say much more as I will spoil it for other people but all I will say is that what I believed was happening in the story and what I believed I had figured out was completely off the mark. Candlish twisted and turned the story completely 360 and left me totally dumbfounded by what then transpired. You need to read this book, you won't be disappointed. I am still thinking about the story and the characters even now after it's been a few days since finishing and that does not happen very often with me when I have read something.

Very, very good, along the lines of "the other passenger" but not as good, however, it does make for a absorbing read and the twist at the end is superb.
