Potrebbe essere l'avvio del più classico libro giallo la cui logica, fatta di indizi via via più stringenti, sembra presiedere la trama di questo romanzo, intessuto in realtà di temi inediti e sorretto da un'invenzione letteraria fitta di paradossi e ironia. Poco a poco infatti il lettore si rende conto che ogni dato apparentemente acquisito viene smentito, ogni scoperta si rivela fallace, ogni supposizione viene contraddetta. Fino a che la realtà non apparirà nella sua essenza di vortice di coincidenze e possibilità che, come in un salto mortale, torna sempre al punto di partenza.
