Beauty Beyond the Looking Glass

This book was fantastic, the poems leave you filled with a sense of whimsical longing. Reading these under a moonlit sky with a glass of merlot would be a scenario of perfection!

I am more than happy to review this exquisite book, ‘Beauty Beyond The Looking Glass’ by poet Lynn Long. There is a very well-written and respectful introduction to this bilingual ( English and Spanish) poetry collection from Editor Mark Antony Rossi. There is also an interesting interview by Mr. Sy Albright at the end of the book. Within the first half of her book, Lynn infuses her poems with phrases about beauty within the framework of many aspects of life: love, heartache, lust. I was impressed with a line in the opening poem, “Beauty In Hope.” ( hope isn’t always a wish or a dream) Powerful words. The second poem, “Beautiful Wish” has a lovely thought within it. ( it’s just a soul thing, yours and mine) Ms. Long goes on to describe other forms of beauty: “Beauty In Wonder” has these impressive lines; ( For beauty is in the wonder of one’s own mind.) This is lovely work. She has included many other poems with various titles. “This Being of Light” is a gorgeous piece. (she whispers goodbye to moonbeams.) “To Begin Again” has a wonderfully picturesque passage (and two become one in euphoric ascent.) “Lost in Time” is ethereal and includes some magnificent near-rhyme within. Also within this book is a really impressive set of what Lynn refers to as ‘Art Stations.’ My absolute favorite was Art Station#3. I write only part of it here: (once upon a time, before you,,, in its entirety, it made a real impact on me. As someone who strongly believes that poetry has the potential to add to the beauty of the world, if you feel the same, I more than recommend this book imbued with beauty.

Hard to ignore a book of verse consistent and convincing on the topic of beauty. Instead of glossing over the tougher things in life the author dives into the many tangents of beauty and how it has an impact upon one's life. Couple this with a major portion of the book translated into Spanish and you have a grand project that reaches for the stars ---and finds them.
