श्री.वि. स. खांडेकर यांच्या `मंझधार' या मूळ बृहद्संग्रहातून वेगळ्या काढलेल्या वीस लघुनिबंधांचा हा संग्रह आहे. काव्य, विनोद व तत्त्वज्ञान यांचा त्रिवेणी संगम साधण्याचा प्रयत्न या संग्रहात ग्रथित केलेल्या लघुनिबंधांत दिसतो. लघुनिबंधातली काव्यस्थळं मावळत्या सूर्याच्या सौम्य सोनेरी छटांसारखी असावीत, त्यातला विनोद हा अर्धवट मिटलेल्या कमळांसारखा मोहक, पण नाजूक... पोट धरून हसवणारा नव्हे, नुसता गालाला खळी पाडणारा... असावा, आणि त्यातून सूचित होणारे तत्त्वविचार क्षितिजावर नुकत्याच चमकू लागलेल्या चांदण्यांप्रमाणे- विरळ, पण सुंदर- असावेत, अशा आदर्श लघुनिबंधाविषयीच्या श्री. खांडेकरांच्या धारणा होत्या. प्रत्यक्षात श्री.खांडेकरांच्या लघुनिबंधांत तत्त्वदर्शन, भावनाविहार आणि कल्पनाविलास हे तीन गुण प्रकर्षानं आढळत असले, तरी आणखी एका महत्त्वाच्या वैशिष्ट्याचा उल्लेख आवश्यक आहे. तो आहे विचारशक्तीचा उच्छृंखल विलास. हा असा गुणसंपन्न लघुनिबंध-संग्रह वाचकांना नक्कीच मंत्रमुग्ध करील, असा विश्वास वाटतो.
This is a set of twenty short essays from the vast collection of essays by the eminent author. The topics are a combination of poetry, humour and philosophy. Khandekar had his own assumptions about the nature of short essays. He believed in just a touch of humour with little bit of poetic language and trace of philosophy. He was a man of few words loaded with deep meaning. His essays are generally a mixture of imagination, feelings and thoughts. In his mind’s eye, he allows his imagination to run far and wide. Reading his essays will be a treat to mind and eyes.
