In order to finish the book you have to be able to identify with the protagonist. I managed to read the first quarter of the book before I decided that it was not holding my attention. The main character is a loser. Self centered and arrogant. I was relieved that on his first combat mission that he got shot down. That should have been the end of the story. But , no the take had to go on and on for another couple hundred pages. Star Barf.

Very nicely done. I especially liked the characters abilities to express themselves without being blasphemous or vulgar. Even though it's the first book of a series, there's enough closure at the end, so that you feel like there's more of their story to come, but it doesn't leave you hanging. Highly recommend, I'll look forward to reading more in this series. Hedgebot was cool!

This is a fantastic book! Proper sci-fi, great action sequences, and believable characters. I found this to be an easy story to get into, as the world building was cleverly done and did not detract from the story. Once into the book, it was totally captivating, and very hard to put down! There were great twists, hair-raising flying performances, and characters that I, as a reader, really cared about. Best of all, the return of Hedgebot, previously seen in ‘Spare Parts’ by this author, and my hero. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
