About this ebook

Brothers Ben and Damien are shockingly quiet when they arrive on Maggie's doorstep. They don't shout or play like normal three and four year olds. They hardly dare make a sound, so much have they been conditioned to be 'seen and not heard' by their mother and controlling stepfather.

More disturbingly, their little baby half-brother Noah is completely unresponsive. He doesn't play, he doesn't smile, he doesn't crawl - he doesn't even cry. In a state of blankness brought about by emotional neglect, poor baby Noah is disconnected from the world. Maggie has never seen such a young life so affected before. Yet with time, love and care, Maggie gradually unpicks what has caused this terrible void. With love and affection, they are no longer scared to be themselves.

A true story of hope from Sunday Times bestselling author Maggie Hartley, a foster carer for over 20 years.

I enjoyed reading this book and seeing how far these lovely 3 young children had come... Like another review on here though I was surprised how much the sea of one child kept changing through out the book at 1st I just thought was maybe just a simple spelling mistake he from she but it happened alpt through the book 1 min Damian was described as a boy and the next a girl... Also when referred to Ruth I actually read the whole book about Ruth and there was 2 different children that was mentioned in the Ruth book as living there long term and then in this book was no where to be mentioned but all in all I did enjoy and would give 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🤗👍 I think the Maggie books are real just maybe couldn't remember what she had changed the names and sex of the children too jndont know strange but a good read all the same 🤗

I just start readimg this but On book about Ruth she was fostering 2 girls one 15 other one 6 . On this book Now she says Ruth left a couple of weeks ago and she is fostering this girl Kate and a boy Oliver . I thought she was like cathy glass but is not . This is made up stories not real like cathy books. I am disappoint.

This book had me in tears, it was a very moving story. What a lovely and kind foster carer! The writing style is excellent and definitely on the same level as Cathy Glass! It's very exciting to be able to read a new author's fostering memoirs, I'm going straight to book two and pre-ordering the third! :)

About the author

Maggie Hartley has fostered more than 300 children while being a foster carer for over twenty years. She's looked after refugees, supported children through sexual abuse and violence court cases, cared for teenagers on remand and taught young mums how to parent their newborn babies.
