Magic, Past and Present brings together the latest interdisciplinary research by Finnish scholars on magic and witchcraft. FT Sonja Hukantaival on erikoistunut kansanuskon arkeologiaan eli kansanuskon ja magian aineellisiin ilmentymiin. Väitöskirjassaan hän tutki Suomen rakennuskätköperinteitä, ja väitöksen jälkeen hän on keskittynyt tutkimaan museoiden taikaesinekokoelmia. Hän on rituaaliarkeologian dosentti Turun yliopistossa.

FT Karolina Kouvola väitteli Helsingin yliopistossa ruotsinkielisen Pohjanmaan tietäjä- ja noitamaineisista henkilöistä, minkä jälkeen hän on työskennellyt tutkijatohtorina Turun yliopistossa. Hän tekee post doc -tutkimusta Oulun yliopistossa Emil Aaltosen säätiön rahoittamassa Parantamisen monimuotoisuus Suomessa 1500–1900-luvuilla -hankkeessa keskittyen Suomen rannikkoalueiden kansanomaisiin parantajiin.

Dosentti Tiina Mahlamäki on uskontotieteen yliopistonlehtori Turun yliopiston historian, kulttuurin ja taiteiden tutkimuksen laitoksella. Hän on erikoistunut esoteriatutkimukseen ja julkaissut aiheesta laajasti. Hänen tuorein teoksensa on tarinallinen tietokirja Neuloosi (Into, 2023).

FM Aleksi Moine viimeistelee folkloristiikan väitöskirjaansa Helsingin yliopistossa. Tutkimuksessaan hän tarkastelee 1800-luvun pohjoiskarjalaisia loitsuja ruumiillisuuden näkökulmasta.
