______

Losing the love of your life once is tragic. TWICE looks like carelessness . . .

Rachel Walsh is a survivor: she survived rehab and the loss of her greatest love.

These days everything in her life is good - good job, good dog, very good boyfriend. Then Luke - her ex of six years - shows up.

Suddenly she's fragile and falling.

They ended badly and neither can speak of the secret hurt which drove them apart.

But is it fear of what happened? Or what might happen next?

Very well written, just as I'd expect from a Marian Keyes, having read loads over the years. I had to re-read Rachel's Holiday before starting this and, as that ultimately ended on a high note, I went into Again, Rachel with optimism. This turned out to be a mistake. This is the first of Marian's book that made me cry whilst reading poolside and the first to cause sleepless nights. Whilst there is a long acknowledgement about any potential pain from the topics covered at the end I actually think this book needs a pre-warning so you are prepared. Perhaps if you were an addict/in recovery then Rachel's Holiday would have been equally chilling, but the topic covered in this is either a fear or an experience by a huge proportion of the world and so easily traumatic. Everything was written really well and with consideration but that ultimately didn't make me feel comfortable reading the words. I would happily re-read any of Marian's book but I just wouldn't be able to with this one.

Rachel's Holiday ended so well. I've often wondered about the Walsh girls as each of their stories was told so well - with little insights into each other's lives in each novel. There's lovely little side stories from each sister woven into the main plot, their relationships, families, the challenges they face and the way that although each Walsh sister is so very different, they support each other with often brutal honesty. Nola and Brigit are there, propping up Rachel as often as she needs it. Mammy Walsh is on fire of course, especially as she's convening regular meetings with her daughters to organise her own surprise party. There's love, addiction, denial, honesty, pain, pregnancy, reminiscing, adults, online shopping, heartbreak, gardening, travelling, laughter, tears, some sexy scenes and no mention of covid! And there's Luke. I laughed a lot. I cried a few times. I loved this book. I was hooked from the first few pages, even if I had a few questions - the marvellous Keyes magic keeping me guessing throughout. And I'm sure it will be in regular rotation with Marian's other books now.

Every time I read a Marian Keyes I don't want it to end! This is no exception. I have laughed out loud and genuinely sobbed. Recommend 1000%

About the author

Marian Keyes is a phenomenon. The multi-million copy, internationally bestselling author of some of the most widely loved, genre-defying novels of the past thirty years - such as Rachel's Holiday, Anybody Out There and Grown Ups - has millions of fans around the world. They are irresistibly drawn by her warmth and wit, fearless honesty, relatable characters and relationships, and sheer storytelling magic. Not only has Marian inspired and entertained countless readers, but also the next generation of writers too.

As a beloved author herself, Marian is a passionate champion of storytellers everywhere, playing an active role in encouraging new voices. She has been the chair of judges for the Comedy Women in Print prize, a sponsor of the Curtis Brown Creative Marian Keyes scholarship, and most recently ran her own hugely popular Instagram Live series bringing free creative writing courses to thousands of viewers. Marian also uses her position to raise some of the most challenging issues of our time, including addiction, immigration, depression, domestic violence and the Repeal the Eighth campaign.

Both critically acclaimed and commercially unstoppable, Marian's fourteenth novel Grown Ups went straight to No.1 in hardback and paperback in four global territories: UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and was shortlisted for the British Book Awards Audiobook of the Year. In addition to her novels, Marian has written two collections of journalism, as well as been the star of the second series of her hit show Between Ourselves aired on BBC Radio 4 at the start of 2021.

Again Rachel, the sequel to her ground-breaking novel Rachel's Holiday, will be Marian's fifteenth novel.

Marian is based in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin.
