Todays world is missing the man of chivalry, integrity and faith. In this book pastor Mark is showing men of all ages how to be the man Christ has called us to be. Using his personal family story Mark makes being a gentlemen cool again. Asking men to challenge themselves in taking responsibility for the way we carry ourselves and familys. This book was an inspiration for me, it goes against the modern definition of what a real man truly is and allows you to put practical bible based action into your kids, spouse and church.

Batterson has written THE Book on being a Man of God! I've read many books on the topics of manhood, fathering and marriage. Not one of them is as good as this! The title comes from the life of Polycarp, a man who was martyred for his faith around 160 AD. Moments before his execution in the Romam Coliseum, a voice was audibly heard by all saying “Be strong, Polycarp, and play the man!” This book is a call towards manhood as Polycarp displayed - devotion, passion and selflessness. Batterson has a way of taking deep, nuanced topics and making them accessible and memorable. This book is clear, concise, and compelling. Using the vantage point of seven virtues, Play the Man sets a clear course for a man's life. As a bonus, the last three chapters revolve around the idea of intentionally transitioning boys to become men. Play the Man is filled with essential wisdom, practice suggestions, and unforgettable sayings. While others may take longer to say similar things, no other book is as helpful or succinct on the topic of Biblical manhood as this one.
