This band of believers, inspired by Mary's devotion, proposed to the Council of the Religious Tract Society that they form a Bible society that would provide Bibles for the people of Wales. Mary Ropes was a prolific writer of children's books who lived from 1842 to 1932. She was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. She moved to London and spent her later life in Wales.
