My Rating: 4.5 Favorite Quotes: “He’d been her first. “He’d told her he intended to be her last. That she was his and always would be.” “He hadn’t even asked her to marry him. It had come up when he was helping her go through her books… He’d told her that they would both gain a significant tax break if they filed as married. And that, for Liam at least, had been all it had taken to determine that they should – and would – get married.” “Harsh as it was, this environment shaped them and defined them. And just like the junipers, transplanting them elsewhere would slowly kill them. At least that is how he felt.” “You don’t love him, you love who you want him to be.” “She kissed him as though she’d never forgotten how, as though the years in between them had never existed.” “It felt right and familiar, yet new and exciting all at the same time.” My Review: I adore SJ McCoy’s writing style and plot lines, having read and delighted in most of her Summer Lake series. Her stories are comfortable, easy to follow, insightful, deliciously steamy, and good for my heart. Her men are definitely strong, successful, multi-talented, and take-charge alphas, yet they are also thoughtful, tender, caring, and love their women deeply. Mason is my new BBF, and I can’t imagine any woman walking away from him, but Gina was being obstinate. I thoroughly enjoyed the contrast between her city boyfriend – Liam - and Mason. Ms. McCoy’s books often involve second and third chances at love, with protagonists who are trying to pull together and enjoy each other - rather than engaging in constant battle and high angst. I was definitely in need of something lighter and softer, and Mason was a perfect fit, just like a large glass of my favorite wine. And while I look forward to more of her Montana adventures, I think it is high time for a return trip to Summer Lake to check on some of Ms. McCoy’s other friends, it has been far too long, and I have missed this feeling of comfort and ease while reading.

This story portrays all life's little (or not so little) struggles. The struggle to find oneself and where they fit in the scheme of things, the problems when things don't turn out right, and trying to find something worthwhile to hang onto. Mason and Gina have years of damage to their relationship that need repairing before they can finally be together.

A misunderstanding keeps two childhood sweethearts apart. Mason and Gina were attached early in life until they were separated because they refuse to talk to each other. Gina left town and has returned to sale the family ranch. Mason and Gina reconnect but will Mason get his chance to tell his story, and will Gina listen and take it to heart? This story had me in their corner to rekindle their love and find happiness. It is well written with likable characters that I connected with.
