Redeeming Lottie: A Small Town Second Chance Romance

A small town and a second chance with the added bonus of a sexy Southern drawl. Redeeming Lottie is a pretty quick listen, and it's got a good balance of sweet and sexy. I loved Tucker almost immediately, but Lottie was a little harder to warm up to. She wants nothing to do with a commitment, but she does a pretty poor job of proving it, and it results in her coming off as kind of wishy-washy at first. Nevertheless, I did warm up to her, and it didn't take long before I was firmly in camp Tucker and Lottie, rooting for their happy ever after. This is the beginning of a series, and Billingsley may be a small town, but it's loaded with interesting and engaging characters that I definitely want more of. I love a small-town romance, so this series is right up my alley, and I'll be interested to see who's next. I had the pleasure of listening to this one, and Erin Coker and Ski do an excellent job with the narration. Honestly, I don't think Melissa Ellen could've chosen any better for Tucker and Lottie. They breathe life into these characters and both voices add that little something extra that I always hope for in an audiobook.

Didn’t Like the Heroine This is a kind of book that makes me realize why I prefer historical romances in general. Normally, when I have an issue with a main character in a romance, it is usually the hero. Some authors make them too unlikable for too long. Unfortunately, I had the same issue here with the heroine. Right from the prologue, I didn't like her. I found her too abrasive and certainly unfeeling. I'm just not a fan of that type of woman or heroine. As such, I could not get into the story. Perhaps if the author had softened her a little earlier, I could have warmed up to the story, but I could never relate to her, which is essential for me in a romance. There's also some mild profanity, which I'm not a fan of whatsoever in any type of writing, but it certainly in a romance. The cover led me to believe that this would be a more pleasant contemporary romance, but I did not find it to be so. I received a free copy of this cookbook, but that did not affect my review.

Tucker and Lottie were each others' first loves in high school. But then Lottie left without even saying goodbye and when all his attempts to contact her went unanswered he gave up. Then Lottie came back to town after her mom died to sort out her estate. She wanted to get the house renovated before putting it up for sale and before Tucker knew it he agreed to help her with it, even if it meant leaving his business in the hands of his foreman. The old attraction between them was certainly still there and before long he knew that he wanted another chance with her. But he had responsibilities now, being the guardian for his sister's little girl. Can he risk getting his heart broken again and will he be able to convince Lottie that they are meant for each other and will not end up like her parents? This is a story of young love, learning to forgive and taking a chance on love and happiness. Such wonderful characters and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
