Diane Carey is a great writer and both Alien novels written by her and contained within the alien omnibus series are up there with Cold Forge and the Alien audible series as the best use of the franchise since the first two movies.

Michael Jan Friedman has written nearly sixty fiction and non-fiction books, more than half in the Star Trek universe.
