About this ebook

When the Nazis invaded Hungary in 1944, they sent virtually the entire Jewish population to Auschwitz. A Jew and a medical doctor, Dr. Miklos Nyiszli was spared from death for a grimmer fate: to perform “scientific research” on his fellow inmates under the supervision of the infamous “Angel of Death”: Dr. Josef Mengele. Nyiszli was named Mengele’s personal research pathologist. Miraculously, he survived to give this terrifying and sobering account.

This isn't a book I can say I enjoyed, but it made a difference for me. I am not Jewish but I read this book about 55 years ago. I still have it. Dr. Nyiszli did a very good writing this book. The version I read was (c)1960. This book is the reason I am STILL doing research on the Holocaust. I have also read many, many books from survivors, now living around the world. I am starting to see and read books about the lives and execution of the guards and people responsible for the inhumane treatment of prisoners. One book was written by the grown up child of a guard and how it effected him.

Enjoyed this book very much; it gave an interesting and easy-to-read account of the horrible events that occurred such a long time ago. While it's written by an amateur author, I would say that would be one of its greatest points; it keeps the book interesting with short chapters and less complex vocabulary at times. If the terrifying subject of The Holocaust makes you dread reading this book, I would say that there are wholesome moments in the book that give a little positivity during such a horrid time.
