She Wanted Sanctuary...

Helena Reynolds will do anything to escape her life in London, even if that means traveling to a remote cliffside estate on the North Devon coast and marrying a complete stranger. But Greyfriar’s Abbey isn’t the sort of refuge she imagined. And ex-army captain Justin Thornhill—though he may be tall, dark, and devastatingly handsome—is anything but a romantic hero.

He Needed Redemption...

Justin has spent the last two decades making his fortune, settling scores, and suffering a prolonged period of torture in an Indian prison. Now, he needs someone to smooth the way for him with the villagers. Someone to manage his household—and warm his bed on occasion. What he needs, in short, is a wife and a matrimonial advertisement seems the perfect way to acquire one.

Their marriage was meant to be a business arrangement and nothing more. A dispassionate union free from the entanglements of love and affection. But when Helena’s past threatens, will Justin’s burgeoning feelings for his new bride compel him to come to her rescue? Or will dark secrets of his own force him to let her go?

a good read and a novel approach to background. I appreciated that she made a situation being abused by society central to the plot. It made the plot more believable. The characters are relatable and appealing, the storyline compelling, and writing engages the reader. I recommend this novel to romance lovers who like a taste of history with a love story. It reflects and makes personal a time we often know only from textbooks.

This book was long winded described everything yet barely moved the story . The most boring characters i have ever read . I honestly picked this book because the cover looked cool . I cant believe i spent 6 dollars on this . Helena was such a flat character that had no growth until the last minute . The book was predictable and not in a fun way in a .. im skipping these pages. Im more upset i trusted the reviews here and online. I can name 5 other vooks with the same damn plot storyline yet executed 10 times better. God even the set up for the next book was just flat and predictable

A refreshing look at romance in Victorian England with great character development, an actual plot, and substance. It's not just fluff like so many Victorian and Regency historical romances.
