A lot of stories try to give off a dark feel but monstress does it like none other. Truly a refreshing read from all the reboots that's going on nowadays.

Dark themes, beautiful artwork, steampunk. Through the chapters, you learn of Maika's struggles with revenge, learning who to trust, and survival in a cruel world. The story also paints (literally and figuratively) a complex picture of survival, common interactions and politics between supernatural beings, humans, and individuals who seem to fall into both of these categories. A bit violent at times, but appropriate to the story.
