โIโve never heard of Mr. Conjure,โ Mary said.
โHe creeps through the shadows wearing a raggedy top hat and a long black coat. His claws are stained a bright red from all the blood heโs spilled. If he gets you, thereโs no escape.โ
โWhyโs he called Mr. Conjure?โ Mary asked.
โWhat do you mean?โ
โWhy isnโt he called Top Hat or Mr. Red Hands?โ
Eddie frowned. โBecause heโs called Mr. Conjure.โย
โBut what does he conjure?โ Mary asked.
โHe doesnโt. You conjure him.โ
โBut why would anyone want to?โ
โBecause people are sometimes stupid,โ Rachel said.
Jenny is a little stupid, at least thatโs what Mary thinks. Why else would the teen go to an abandoned house by herself and play a game to summon a monster called Mr. Conjure? Mary doesnโt believe he exists, but Jenny insists that heโs out to get her. Sheโs so afraid of him that she attempts suicide.ย
Rachel wants to help Jenny and needs Mary to do it. Mary thinks Jenny needs a shrink, not her. Sheโs sure Mr. Conjure isnโt real. But something is lurking in the dark, and if it canโt get Jenny, itโll take Mary instead.ย
