Podrobnosti o e‑knize

Following the same format as other book in the series, this guide to North American wood warblers, the parulinae, looks at their distribution throughout the USA and into Central and South America.

New World warblers are one of the most colourful, popular and enigmatic groups of North American birds. This is the first time comprehensive guide to the identification, ageing and sexing of all 116 species.

Thirty-six colour plates show the major age, sex and racial variations for all species (many of which have never been fully illustrated before). They are accompanied by colour distribution maps and black-and-white drawings.

Jon Curson's up-to-the-minute text is based on over ten years' field research in North, South and Central America coupled with meticulous museum work by both author and artists. The book contains a full text for each species, including wing-formulae drawings. Some of the species covered find their way to the UK and Europe.

New World Warblers represents a significant step forward in our knowledge of one of the most beautiful and conspicuous groups of North American birds.

O autorovi

Jon Curson is co-author of the definitive and widely acclaimed New World Warblers. He has spent much of the last 10 years studying birds at observatories and in the field in North America, and has made several long research trips to Mexico and the tropics. He has contributed several papers on American warblers to various ornithological journals and is a committee member of the Neotropical Bird Club.

David Quinn developed an interest in drawing and painting at an early age. He became a freelance artist in 1982 and his illustrations have appeared, to much acclaim, in a wide variety of natural history publications. He was voted British Birds 'Bird Illustrator of the Year' in 1987. David made several trips to North America specifically to gather material for this guide.

David Beadle is an artist from Canada with a great knowledge of South America and its birds. His previous books include New World Warblers (Helm, 2002) and Sparrows of the United States and Canada (Academic Press, 2002). He has travelled extensively in North America and northern South America gaining first-hand experience of most the species covered in this guide. He has been a professional illustrator for about two years, specialising in the avifauna of the Americas.
