About the author
De Nicolas Fromaget on sait peu de choses. Il mourut jeune, en 1759. Il fut un ami de Alain-René Lesage, célèbre en son temps pour Les Aventures de M. Robert Chevalier dit Beauchesne et Gil Blas de Santillane, maître du picaresque à la française, et avec lequel il collabora à l’écriture de certaines pièces. Il écrivit sous son nom plusieurs ouvrages, mais seul Le Cousin de Mahomet ou la folie salutaire, écrit en 1742 et immédiatement victime de la censure, eut en son temps un certain succès. Il fut souvent réimprimé après 1750 et la censure le visait encore en 1770.
