I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion. 3.5 stars — Definitely a fun ride, but I didn’t feel quite as connected to Sadie and Ethan as I was to Jake and Christa in book 1. I think I might have had certain expectations of Sadie as we saw her in the first book, and so the direction this book took threw me off a bit. I never really felt like I got to know who she was. Like we’re told over and over that she doesn’t want to love because she has lost, but I don’t know if I really saw it a lot…it was there, but just not as intrinsic. This story also started a surprising amount of time after the first book ended. I expected it to be within days, not months. Also, warning to future readers: this is the type of series that, while different characters are featured in each book, I honestly believe you won’t get as much enjoyment from jumping in in the middle. I think you’d have a fuller experience if you read from book one. I don’t know that you’d be completely lost, but I would imagine you would be a little. I could never quite figure Ethan out. The author spent so much time making sure that his motives were questionable, that I didn’t really fall for him. He tolerated a lot of bad things in his life. Like horrific things. And while this is clear about him, as a reader I had a hard time empathizing with him. I guess I just didn’t connect with him. I also didn’t really connect with their romance as much. I didn’t see them fall in love… Lust? Yuppers. Love? *sigh* I just didn’t feel it. So how did I still rate this one so highly? The overall plot and sci-fi/paranormal/urban fantasy elements were very intriguing and kept me wanting to learn more. There were a lot of edge of the seat moments, and some great action-y type scenes. I’m still very curious where this series is going, and what all is going to happen. I also loved seeing the Tribe members again, and getting to see in Kaitlin’s head on occasion was fun. She’s angrier than I expected. I also really enjoyed Fergus, though I didn’t fall in love with him either (for similar reasons to Ethan). So basically, while the characters didn’t pull me in as deeply, the plot and action/suspense was still top notch! Can’t wait to read the next book and see what’s going to happen next!!

Wow, I loved this book! This picks up following the Tribe in their very fight for survival against the Conclave. While this is a stand alone novel, you will enjoy it so much more if you've read the prior book. This picks up predominately from Sadie's point of view as she is following the thread of Conclave members to eliminate them all. She holds them responsible for killing many people, but especially her sister. Ethan is the man she can't stop dreaming about, but she believes him to be a dream fantasy, not a real man... This novel is filled with twists, turns, and time travel that literally twists time around. While not my normal genre, I loved this novel. At it's heart, it remains a romance, just wrapped in a complex plot that kept me guessing. Put this one at the top of your TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.
