I wasn't impressed when I started The Book of Phoenix. But then, I couldn't really stop myself from continuing. And it was well worth it. When I got into the rhythm of it, this book carried me into a world I could absolutely believe in and a story that broke my heart with just how plausible it all was. I recommend it to anyone looking to step into a different mode of reading.

I immediately feel into the world of this book from page 1. the characters are beautifully drawn. the only thing I was not keen on - trying to write this without spoilers - but would have been more satisfied with it just ending than a new story starting up ...

So imaginative. Her writing is filled with strong African women, a group who rarely make it into Sci fi
About the author
Nnedi Okorafor is the author of numerous novels and short stories, including Zahrah the Windseeker, which won the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature, Who Fears Death, winner of the 2011 World Fantasy Award for Best Novel,and Lagoon, which Ngugi wa Thiong'o, author of Wizard of the Crow, calls 'a thing of magic and beauty.'
She lives in New York, where she is a professor of creative writing at the University of Buffalo, SUNY.
