A naïve recruit is tricked by a ruthless Roman General into agreeing to kill two officers but finds himself torn between his sacred oath of vengeance and the bond of brothers in battle. North of Bodotria glimpses into the dark, cut-throat corruption of the Roman Empire, seen through the eyes of fresh recruit Vederius Ligustus. It follows Vederius’s journey as he is sent to Northern Britannia to train for the final push into ancient Scotland. He is looking for adventure in the Roman army but, without realising, becomes an innocent pawn in other people’s games. He finds himself making some tough moral choices that teach harsh lessons about loyalty.
