Os autores naturalistas pertencem à Escola Realista, que incluía ainda os realistas propriamente ditos e os simbolistas.
About the author
Aluísio Tancredo Gonçalves de Azevedo (1857-1913) foi romancista, contista, cronista, jornalista, caricaturista e diplomata. Nasceu no Maranhão, onde passou a infância para logo depois seguir para o Rio de Janeiro. Escreveu tanto romances folhetinescos, melodramáticos e de crítica de costumes à sociedade burguesa como romances ligados à estética naturalista.
