OF FIRE AND FLAME is a prequel novella in Donna Grant’s DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. OF FIRE AND FLAME is a short story that reveals some of the history between Constantine, King of the Dragon Kings, his mate and Light Fae Rhiannon, and Erith aka Death. SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland, including the latest spin off about the Fae executioners known as the REAPERS. Told from three third person perspectives (Con, Rhi and Death) OF FIRE AND FLAME is a quick read; a short story that focuses on the emotional heart break of Con and Rhi’s break up in the face of Con’s need to protect the dragons he rules. As Rhi struggles to find a place in the world, a trip to Fae finds Rhi battling for her life, a life that is about to change for all eternity. Meanwhile, Death must face a loss of her own, banning a fellow Reaper in the face of betrayal but as Rhi’s life hangs in the balance, Death takes responsibility for the lives of two young souls. OF FIRE AND FLAME is a revealing, heart breaking and emotional short story of turmoil, sacrifice , desolation and grief.

This is short novella with 3 POVs. Rhy, Con and Erith. A very emotional real about the time Rhi and Con ended their relationship. This is not a standalone. I'm ready for these two to move forward now that we have a better understanding of them.

Of Fire and Flame is the back-story (or prelude) to the Dark Kings. It tells the story of what happened between Con and Rhi, and the part Erith (Death) played in their history. It's novella in length, so it's not a long book but it packs an emotional punch. Do I agree with Con's reasons? Or Erith's interference? Not sure...but I enjoyed reading this story all the same. Armed with a box of tissue, some chocolate, and a glass of wine. Note: some deeply-entrenched readers may have found one or two timeline inconsistencies, but I wasn't bothered too much by anything. I received a copy of this book from the author via Bookfunnel. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
