About this eBook

Drifters in search of work, George and his childlike friend Lennie, have nothing in the world except the clothes on their back - and a dream that one day they will have some land of their own. Eventually they find work on a ranch in California's Salinas Valley, but their hopes are dashed as Lennie - struggling against extreme cruelty, misunderstanding and feelings of jealousy - becomes a victim of his own strength. Tackling universal themes of friendship and shared vision, and giving a voice to America's lonely and dispossessed, Of Mice and Men remains Steinbeck's most popular work, achieving success as a novel, Broadway play and three acclaimed films.

Haven't read it since grade 9 38yrs ago, I can't remember what I learnt at school but I remember this book it had me gripped and was quite sad in parts especially for the end George has got balls the size of Godzilla to be able to go through what he did especially as it was his best friend and was never meaning any of the actions that caused him so much grief and didn't understand his own strength. Gotta get the book again I could read it every day then repeat lol

Lennie, though in some respects a flawed character is likeable in his vulnerability - a gentle giant indeed, but one I've never been able to shake off as the relatively simple-minded guy who too easily becomes the victim of hearsay. The way his friend George tries to protect him after Lennie becomes compromised by talk of him and the boss's daughter is both realistic and very tender. I like a story that moves me and this did just that.

Doing this book at school and need my own copy at home. The free sample is porky about steinbeck himself and doesn't have any part of the book in it at Al and I am not willing to pay the price for the book. Please make the free sample at least the first chapter of the book please then I might consider giving more stars.
