Jules Verne (1828-1905) was a famous French novelist, playwright, and poet. He is best known for his series of science-fiction adventure novels which included βJourney to the Centre of the Earthβ, βTwenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seaβ and βAround the World in Eighty Daysβ. These novels were published by Pierre-Jules Hetzel β the publisher of HonorΓ© de Balzac and Victor Hugo among many others. Alongside these more famous works, Verne also wrote plays, poetry, and short stories. Verne died at home in Amiens in 1905. Incredibly imaginative and innovative, Verne was one of the most influential writers of his era, and continues to be a household name today.
