About this eBook

He’s betting on love…

Margaret Stockwick is still mourning the loss of her beloved parents when her brother whisks her away from the family estate. Unbeknownst to Meg, Hector has no plans to allow her to return. Instead, he’ll see her ensconced in London after the Christmas season to be married off as quickly as possible, thereby relieving himself of any further responsibility for her welfare. Meg is devastated; not only by her brother’s betrayal, but at the prospect of spending the holidays with his best friend, the roguish Lord Clement.

Otis spends nearly all his days at his family’s estate, the better to protect his mother and siblings. But his greatest wish is to remove them from beneath the thumb of his scheming father. Then Lord Vyne presents a wager—marry in three months, and Otis can win a bit of freedom for his family. It’s a gamble Otis intends to win. But not with the chit his father’s chosen, an arrangement based on financial gain. No. Otis is determined to marry for love and mutual respect…and it isn’t long before he finds the lovely Meg inspiring both.

A steamy regency romance novella.

Such a delightful story about two wonderful characters that meet at a time they truly needed each other. Still mourning the loss of her parents, Margaret's brother takes her to the estate of his friend Otis, who she remembers from her childhood. Otis is smitten when he sees her and she cannot think him but handsome. But it takes this couple several twist and turns to get to their happy ever after which kept me turning the pages as fast as I could. I loved Otis.. He is the hero that warms the heart.. Truly enjoyed this story!

Spoiler I think Meh forgave and believed Otis to quickly about her brother and him. It would have given the book a little more depth of Meg had confronted her brother Hector at some point about his behaviour and his treatment of her. I wished I knew what had happened with Otis's parents. At one point Meg thinks she doesn't care of she ever speaks to her brother again, I wonder if after the wedding if they do speak again. Overall I liked the storyline but I wished that there had been more to the story, I feel as if there were many missed opportunities to make the story a little more in depth. A delightful novella with wonderful characters that will make you want to keep reading. Margaret is so lovely and yet hers is a lonely soul, mourning the loss of her parents, as well as not seeing much of her brother at all. Add the fact that he practically dumps her on his friend Otis and family and her humiliation is complete!! Having met Otis many years earlier, she is in awe at how handsome he's become:) Otis, for his part, is mesmerized by her and would love nothing more than to court her but first, there's a few problems to solve....as well as a bet with his father! Although the story takes place at Christmas time, there really isn't very much mentioned about it and only near the end does it mention a Christmas tree and decorations. When I read a Christmas novel, I love to hear about the outings, the gathering of the greenery, the special meals, etc. That is my only complaint about this story:) I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
