À propos de cet e-book

As Jamaican reggae/dancehall music has become very dominant in our
culture, artists play a huge role in the development of our language, known as patois, as they are constantly coining
words and phrases that baffle even older Jamaicans and certainly foreigners.

So as people worldwide swing to our music and  Jamaica
is a well -known tourism destination in the Caribbean , since most Jamaicans
do not automatically speak English but only when required, this dictionary is critical to travellers as well music lovers.

This is 6th edition of the Original Dancehall Dictionary, a publication which since 1993, has been doing an
invaluable job in helping the world understand our language and the cartoons
not only assist in the translation but also they add to the hilarity of the publication.

À propos de l'auteur

Joan Williams is Jamaican who was educated in Canada, USA and Jamaica and hold a BSc in Economics.  Her initial training was as a computer programmer but she decided very early that she preferred to work with humans and not machines. She then got involved in Public Relations and politics in Jamaica, then moved on to become a workshop/seminar planner throughout the English Speaking Caribbean.

It was her passion for writing that drove her to establish Yard Publications in 1991 launching the "Back A Yard " series which was an annual satirical review of Jamaican politics and she actually  published six annuals before deciding to take life less seriously!

In 1993, because of her late son's interest in Dancehall music and being intrigued by the new language she heard emerging, she started research into the youthful lingo and shortly after, published the 1st Original Dancehall Dictionarywith cartoons and all,  thus making it both educational and very comical. It became extremely popular and the 6th edition of that Dictionary was published in 2012 and it is this same 6th edition that is now an ebook.

In 1995 because of her love of the great outdoors and overwhelmed by Jamaica's unique beauty, she wrote the first "Tour Jamaica IN 1995. The 4th edition is now this ebook.

For the kids too she published; The Original Jamaican Colouring Book; Count and Colour; Draw and Colour: Colour and Learn; all highlighting Jamaican scenes.

She has also operated several businesses from a very successful Public Relations Company to a chain of Children's nurseries and finally a Real Estate brokerage but always come back to her first love, Journalism and at one time or the other, she has been a columnist in Jamaica for the Gleaner, Star, Jamaica Observer, Money Index, Daily News as well as the Miami based Caribbean Today and Amnesty International magazine. Because of her biting written commentaries, she was invited to do radio, first by the now defunct Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) where she did a political commentary in the afternoons, then for over a decade, she was the alternative host of the number one talk show, "Perkins on Line."

Although semi-retired, I am currently the Friday host of Justicea call-in programme on Power 106 in Jamaica which is transmitted worldwide.
