About the author

Louisa May Alcott nasceu em Germantown, Pensilvânia, em 1832. Ela e suas três irmãs, Anna, Elizabeth e May foram educadas pelo pai, filósofo e professor. Louisa passou a infância em Boston e em Concord, Massachusetts, onde seus dias foram iluminados por visitas à biblioteca de Ralph Waldo Emerson e excursões pela natureza com Henry David Thoreau. Louisa tinha uma imaginação fértil e muitas vezes suas histórias se transformavam em melodramas que ela e suas irmãs representavam para as amigas. Publicou mais de trinta livros, além de coleções e contos. Faleceu em 1888, apenas dois dias depois de seu pai.
