Kedalaman Palung Weber diukur selama ekspedisi yang dijalankan oleh pemerintah Hindia Belanda pada tahun 1929 dan 1930 menggunakan HMS Willebrord Snellius.
Bagian depan busur Banda dari rantai pulau vulkanik berisi cekungan yang lebih rendah yang disebut Palung Weber, juga disebut Weber Deep.
