È quello che succede quando viene scoperto il pianeta Peponi, fertile e ricco di risorse naturali, che a causa dello sfruttamento ingordo e votato solo al profitto delle corporazioni umane, presto si riduce a una landa desertificata. Altre creature deportate da pianeti lontani innescano faide tribali per la sopravvivenza con la civiltà autoctona, che sembra destinata all'estinzione. I pochi esseri umani che si rendono conto del disastro che si sta compiendo hanno poco tempo per intervenire, prima che sia troppo tardi.
