About this ebook

From NYT bestselling author, Patricia Rice, the fourth book and an enticing addition to the Unexpected Magic series. . .

Brighid Darrow, Countess of Carstairs, has endured years of a loveless marriage in order to aid her friends and the people of Northridge. Yet once she is widowed, the village shuns her with accusations of witchcraft—vilifying her unique gift of reading auras. Released from past restraints, Bridey rebelliously embraces her dream of establishing a forbidden school for midwives.

Having spent his life being all that is proper in hopes of earning a title in return for services to the crown, Aaron Pascoe-Ives, illegitimate son of a marquess, is ordered to Northridge to save the royal mines from rioters. Any hope of aid from the beautiful but aloof countess is dashed when his incorrigible twins endanger their young lives by following him, mystifyingly insisting that Countess of Carstairs is their new mother.

Bridey and Pascoe face ghosts, assassins, and riots—but nothing as perilous as the irresistible attraction between them. With hard-fought goals at risk, they must make the ultimate choice between achieving dreams—or losing each other.

Aura of Magic: Unexpected Magic by Patricia Rice is a whimsical, and magical tale of love, mystery and so much more. Book 4 in the "Unexpected Magic" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, "book 1, "Magic in the Stars", book 2, "Whisper of Magic" and book 3, "Theory of Magic". While, each book is a stand alone, I feel to receive the full benefits of this wonderful series, each book should be read. This the story of Brighid Darrow, Countess of Carstairs, now a widow of a loveless marriage, she for endured years to protect her friends and the people of Northridge. Who now shun her and accuse her of witchcraft, because she sees auras and ghosts. She also wishes to set up and begin a midwifery school for women. And, Aaron Pascoe-Ives, the illegitimate son of a marquess, who is ordered to Northridge in hopes of saving the royal mines from rioters. Pascoe, doesn't believe in magic but he himself can smell corruption and greed. He wishes to gain a knighthood and rise above his birth. This both Pascoe and Brighid are passionate and very strong-willed. As if they didn't face enough problems enter....Pascoe's incorrigible but cute twins. Who not only endanger they their lives by following thry father to Northridge but they insist that Brighid is their new mother. Which of coursr dashes Pascoe's hope of receiving aid from the aloof but beautiful Brighid. Ms. Rice has yet again written a story of not only magic but a story that will definitely have readers turning pages as they follow Pascoe, Brighid and the twins on a mystifyingly perilous and journey. They face assassins, riots, ghosts, corruption, greed, and their attraction to each other, among other things. Poweful, compelling with mystery, susense, some hilarious moments as well as hair-raising moments. The elements of "Aura of Magic" is fantastic, and makes for a fast paced read with engaging characters and a brilliantly written plot. I think Pascoe and Brighid's story is my favorite in this fascinating series. I enjoy Patricia Rice's stories, written with a bit of humor, mystery, suspense and magical elements. Fans of Historical romance, magic, wirh the added antics of children, twins, no less, will find "Aura of Magic" exceedingly intriguing. Well done, Patricia Rice! I received a complimentary copy. Patricia Rice never fails to present the reader with an entertaining read. Aura of Magic brings another slant to the paranormal and the main characters are delightful. Pascoe and Brighid are people who don't fit the mould, making life uncomfortable for them and those around them. Nevertheless despite their unconventional introduction, they are attracted to one another and the irascible twins add to the flavour. Set in a time when the balance of power was beginning to shift with the advent of new inventions, Pascoe and Brighid find themselves having to rely upon one another and also having to take advice from two insightful 4 year olds. I enjoyed the humour as well as the suspenseful nature of the book. I received and ARC of this book, and this is my voluntary and honest review.
