Born in NSW, Beverley Harper travelled to Africa at 26, took one look and fell in love. She stayed for nearly 20 years, living at various times in Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Botswana, the Ivory Coast and Malawi before returning to Australia in 1988 with the spoils of her wanderings - a husband and three sons.
