About this eBook

England zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts. England at the beginning of the 19th century. Anne Elliot, sensitive, gentle and sophisticated, is, at 27 years of age, already considered an “old maid". 8 years ago her family persuaded her to break off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth. A decision that she has regretted until this day. When her family is forced to give up their ancestral home due to the extravagance of her vain father, Anne's and Wentworth's paths cross again. Wentworth has made his own way as a Captain in the navy. But their meeting is overshadowed by misunderstandings.

About the author

English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which interpret, critique and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security. Her works critique the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century and are part of the transition to 19th-century literary realism.
