"Companion planting is an old method which has been used for centuries to create the perfect growing conditions for crops. This book offers a guide to understanding companion planting plus giving you recommended combinations of plants that work well together. This book contains step by step instructions, lots of colour photos in the hardback version which I also bought as a housewarming present for my friend, and offers advice that will help you produce better quality fruits and vegetables in much less time. There are ideas throughout the text that show how it is possible to be cost effective when using companion planting, plus expert tips about how you can use your crop rotation effectively. The author tells us why certain plants should be planted next to each other in order for both plants to grow successfully. He also provides information about fruit trees (including which ones benefit from being planted close to vegetables and which ones make the best neighbours). Peter also talks about ways of trapping crops (bugs and insects) and using companion planting with flowers. It is well written and it is easy to understand and there are great photos throughout that give you ideas about how to design your garden with companion planting in mind. It is a good resource for those who want to know more about growing fruit and vegetables as part of their own food strategy and as I am a Big Fan now of Peter Shepperd I will recommend his Series of books to any green-fingered garden lover but also to anyone with a brown-thumb!"

This book is about vegetables that grow well together and vegetables that do not. The author, Peter Shepherd (who also wrote books such as "introduction to raised bed gardening" and "Advanced raised bed gardening"), focuses on vegetables rather than the entire garden, the focus is on how to grow vegetables and to help you plant vegetables in a way that will maximize your harvest and minimize your work. I really loved this book and the images are very nicely done, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know which vegetables can grow well together, even if you do not want to use companion plants this book will give you tips about vegetables that need certain vegetables near them to deter pests or that vegetables go better when planted next to certain vegetables. This is good for people looking for an organic farming method using permaculture techniques.

Companion planting is an ancient method that can be used to maximize garden space while taking advantage of the natural abilities of each plant. The results can be achieved without chemicals or poisons seeping into the soil. according to peter Shepperd, companion planting "is not a new idea but it has been given a new lease on life with all the talk of environmental pollution and dangers from sprays." Shepperd's book shares his knowledge and experience about companion planting to teach us effective ways to make our garden more successful. his main point is to find out what you want to do in the garden - whether it be clearing ground for new beds or bringing on crops of raspberries or strawberries, planting and underplanting can enhance your crop's performance. Shepperd also says that companion planting is not one of those "miracle cures" which solves all gardening problems at a stroke.

About the author

Peter Shepperd is in his 40s, his interest in gardening started when he decided to give his family access to fresh, homegrown, and organic food.

Peter has been studying new gardening approaches to diversify his experience and skillset. His experimentation has allowed him to figure out what works and what definitely doesn't.

He disagrees with the use of pesticides and chemicals. He has decided to produce this series of books to cover all aspects of growing, gardening, and organic sustainability.

Peter has spent over a decade experimenting with different gardening techniques and perfecting his approach to growing fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other plants. Not only this, but he has learned how to make the most of each part of the food that he grows.

Teaching others has become his passion as some affordable, and straightforward practices have entirely transformed how his family gets access to healthy, delicious, nutritious, and attainable food. Peter’s vision is to slowly transition more and more people away from the often-tasteless vegetables that are purchased in supermarkets and are heavily reliant on the use of chemicals that are damaging the environment, towards homegrown organic healthy produce, believing that the process of doing so will also help grow the person that has produced them as well.

Peter lives with his family near Windsor in England.
