I am an 87 year old grandmother who has written poetry for the most of her life – and decided to put it all into a book to publish and share. You can image that many years of poetry was published in college classes and with encouragement I am attempting to publish this book. I was born in the Slim Buttes area if South Dakota in 1924 and as a country child learned to cherish the natural world. My sisters and I spent our early childhood with the wilderness as our playground and many a nigh lulled to sleep with the cries and yelps of the coyotes on some nearby hill. The natural world imprinted on our hearts and minds and became the preface to our lives. It opened our hearts to the world around us, the result being, of course, poetry. Later years we adjusted to the more populated world and I married and became the mother of two wonderful sons. I believe at this date in life I have fulfilled all expectations one can have to feel complete – all except one and that is to publish this book of poetry. The poems trace the years.
