Sharlene Teo nasceu em Cingapura em 1987. Tem bacharelado em Direito pela Universidade de Warwick e mestrado em Escrita Criativa pela Universidade de East Anglia, onde recebeu o Booker Prize Foundation Scholarship e o prêmio David TK Wong Creative Writing. Foi finalista do prêmio Berlim Writing Prize. Em 2016, ela ganhou, com Ponti, o prêmio de autor estreante do Deborah Rogers Writer’s Award.
