Indian Folktales is a collection of folk-stories, legends, and anecdotes, collected and translated from Hindi by Pradeep Atrey. These enchanting bedtime stories present the colourful world of their characters- kings, queens, gods, goddesses, ordinary men, women, demons, animals, insects, and so on, and in turn generate all sorts of aesthetic sentiments, like love, laughter, anger, pity, disgust, fear, peace, etc. The tales also provide a glimpse of Indian culture as they are primarily grounded in the everyday lives of Indian people. About the author

Pradeep Atrey has taught English language and literature at universities in India, Libya, Ethiopia, and Saudi Arabia. He has contributed chapters in books and articles in research journals interpreting texts through the lens of contemporary critical theories, such as poststructuralism, postcolonialism, postmodernism, feminism, and so on. His book on the reception of critical theory in India, Limits of Language: Poststructuralism and Ancient Indian Theories is published by Motilal Banarasidass, New Delhi. 

The More I Desired… is his first novel, followed by Love in Libya. He also translates from Hindi to English. His major works of translation are a compilation of the sayings of Acharya Tulsi (a Jain saint), Geeta Sharma’s Marigold and Vision: Third Eye. He has also translated the Hindi novel Vismrit Yātri by Rahul Sānkrityāyan into English as A Forgotten Traveler. Currently, he is working on a sci-fi novel titled Doctor A
