Das Unterscheidende von anderen neutestamentlichen Briefen, die unter dem Namen des Paulus verfasst wurden, liegt darin, dass sich der unbekannte Autor eng an den authentischen 1. Thessalonikerbrief anlehnt, dessen Theologie aber eigenständig weiterdenkt. Der Kommentar präsentiert eine verunsicherte Gemeinde, die der Briefverfasser angesichts der äußeren Bedrängnisse und der ausbleibenden Wiederkunft Christi zu festigen sucht.
