About the author
Journaliste engagé, militant socialiste, romancier hors norme, Theodore Dreiser (1871 - 1945) est considéré comme le père de la littérature américaine du XX siècle. Le grand critique et théoricien des lettres américaines H. L. Mencken dit que « Dreiser a joué dans la littérature américaine le rôle qu'a joué Darwin dans la biologie, il l'a transformée radicalement ».
