कमोदिनी हा रणजित देसाई यांच्या दहा कथांचा संग्रह आहे. मानवी जीवनात प्रेम ही एक महत्त्वाची भावना आहे. दोन व्यक्तींमध्ये काय नाते आहे त्याप्रमाणे या प्रेमाचे स्वरुप बदलते. पती-पत्नी, प्रियकर-प्रेयसी, गुरू-शिष्या अशा संबंधातच नाही; तर कोठीवर जाऊन प्रेम करण्याच्या संबंधातसुद्धा प्रेमाचे वेगळे वंâगोरे दिसतात. या संग्रहामधील बहुतेक कथा विविध घटनांमधून या भावनेचा शोध घेणाNया आहेत. कथेतील पात्रांच्या प्रभावी चित्रणातूनदेखील मानवी भावनांचा वेध घेतला जातो. ‘अखेर या कथेमध्ये स्वातंत्र्यवीर सावरकर यांच्या उत्कट देशभक्तीचा घेतलेला मागोवा हे याचेच उदाहरण आहे.कथेतील पात्रांच्या प्रभावी चित्रणातूनदेखील मानवी भावनांचा वेध घेतला जातो. ‘अखेर’या कथेमध्ये स्वातंत्र्यवीर सावरकर यांच्या उत्कट देशभक्तीचा घेतलेला मागोवा हे याचेच उदाहरण आहे.
