Aku Rafaella. Ayahku orang Brazil, ibuku berdarah Bugis. Membesar aku di tempat orang berbahasa Portugis. Cakap Inggeris tersangkut-sangkut bila sekolah rendah tak habis. Cakap Melayu terus terbantut sebab bahasa di rumah habis ditapis.
Pulang ke Malaysia, aku jadi bisu. Tiada teman sepermainan, hanya duduk di bangku. Tiada yang sudi berkawan, termasuk kalangan sepupu. Sampailah muncul superheroku.
Kecil-kecil, aku dibuli. Remaja-remaja, aku dipuji. Meningkat dewasa, aku digari. Ditambat oleh superhero sendiri.

Born in a musical family background, Maria fell in love with art at the first sight. And as she taught herself to read, she fell for the beauty of language. Never set limit to her creativity, Maria used to play dollhouse to pour out her 'right-brain' contents. And as she grew up, she chose a different outlet — writing.
