Christian Jacq entdeckte als dreizehnjähriger das Ägypten der Pharaonen durch Bücher. Mit 17 besuchte er zum ersten Mal die historischen Stätten am Nil, und seitdem hat er "Ägypten in der Nase", wie die Hieroglyphen es ausdrücken würden. An der Sorbonne absolvierte er ein Doppelstudium in Archäologie und Ägyptologie, das er mit einer Promotion in Ägyptologie abschloss. Er veröffentlichte zahlreiche ägyptologische Studien und gründete das Institut Ramsès, das sich dem Erhalt gefährdeter antiker Baudenkmäler in Ägypten widmet. Mit seinem Team erarbeitet er eine lückenlose Foto-Dokumentation dieser Denkmäler sowie ein Archiv mit Übersetzungen der hieroglyphischen Inschriften.
Bekannt ist Christian Jacq aber vor allem als Autor von historischen Romanen über das alte Ägypten, insbesondere für seine Beststeller-Romane über den berühmten Pharao Ramses.
