This is my first review in six years. I’ve suffered from anxiety for many years and tried everything from meditation retreats and daily mindfulness practice to visiting psychologists and alcohol and drugs. I learned a great deal but failed to find a way to relieve me from my daily anxious thoughts and consequent inability to enjoy and experience life to the fullest. I became desperate, read every anxiety self help book I could find and approached my anxiety as a problem I had to beat, one thought at a time. This worked initially but took effort and increased my anxiety more often than not. This book was the missing link between all my learnings and clearly explains how anxiety really works, why my previous efforts to overcome anxiety failed and offers a practical guide to overcome them.

This book for ocd goes beyond the advice of medication and counseling. It recognizes the true struggles of ocd and offers validation as well as great insight to begin to tackle the ocd struggles. The book includes the definition of ocd, the possible causes of ocd, and some treatment options including CBT and ACT. I feel like this book will help many as it has helped me.

I read this book with special interest, as someone who has struggled with OCD in various forms for longer than I can remember. The disorder itself is described in a child-friendly way, with simple analogies to explain even complex points. For example, OCD is compared to a hungry monster, who only gets greedier the more you feed it. Kids are encouraged to be OCD detectives investigating and challenging their behaviors and thoughts.
