About this eBook

Once a fighter, always a fighter...

Former Navy SEAL Mason McCarthy is done being a fighting man. Now he and the Deep Six Salvage crew are working feverishly to find the wreck of the Santa Cristina and its legendary sunken treasure. Unfortunately for Mason's peace of mind, chatty, brilliant historian Alexandra Merriweather has joined the hunt and there's no avoiding her. Alex is exactly the kind of distraction Mason can't afford right now...or maybe ever.

When a murderous enemy from Mason's past threatens the Deep Six, he must rely on old instincts and the skills he honed from years of running black ops to make sure nothing touches Alexandra. But with their lives on the line and the adrenaline running high, it's inevitable that sparks will fly.

This is book #3, in the Deep Six series. This book can be read as a standalone. For reader enjoyment, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading the series in the order intended. Alexis wants Mason and she has made no secret of it. Her uncontrollable attraction appears one sided, but he shows her repeatedly with though and deed that is not so. Only they have to dodge attempts on their lives and search for treasure while keeping themselves apart. Mason has no idea what to do with Alex. One minute she is the smartest, most beautiful woman he has ever known, and the next she is the most cunning sexpot alluring him with her honest mouth. Can they survive it all? The pace of this book moves very fast as there is much inside. Lots of surprises for the reader, as well as a burning heat between the main characters that may move the reader to need a fan. The gang is all here in this one, and the new installment is satisfying, if not a slow burn. ***This ARC copy was given by Netgalley and its publishers, in exchange for an honest review.

DNF at 39%. OMG, how can I have read nearly half a book and all I can remember is angst about some woman trying to lose her virginity to a special forces operative with more angst than a teenage girl. There's a fine line to tread with spec-ops romances. The men have to be tough and sexy and maybe a bit mysterious, the women have to be 'special': clever, feisty, talented, or something else. There has to be danger, high octane action, tension and crackling chemistry between the hero and heroine. Maybe it's me, maybe its because I started reading this book four months ago but honestly I didn't get any of the above. As a personal aside, as a 50-something year old woman, the idea that a woman worries about losing her virginity and makes a big deal of it seems (frankly) pathetic. You either care or you don't. I honestly don't think anyone else is the slightest bit bothered or would even notice. Overall, if I'm 39% into a book and I have no clue as to the plot, the bad guys, and I don't have the feels for the hero and heroine then I'm going to pass. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed this read. It is well written and grabbed and held my interest with a thrilling combination of action, emotion, adventure, drama, danger and suspense. I liked Mason and Alex well enough, felt they had good chemistry and thought they would make a great pairing. All that being said, I also had some big pet peeves with their attitudes and actions that detracted from my full enjoyment of their romance. Still, taken as a whole, I found it to be a very good edge of your seat book with a romance that was not my favorite but still entertaining. This is my frank, freely posted review.
