About this ebook

These essays were brought together to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Leonard Bloomfield (1887-1949), one of the most outstanding and influential linguists of the twentieth century. The contributions have been grouped in three sections according to their relevance to his work, and deal, respectively, with his personality, his theoretical stance, and his fields of study.
The papers in this volume were previously published in Historiographia Linguistics 14:1/2 (1987), to which has been added an index of names containing biographical dates.
