This book along with BEYOND BIOCENTRISM (Lanzas second) are two of the most meaningful books on understanding the role of consciousness in the cosmos. The perfect answer to Dennets ridiculous book: CONCIOUSNESS EXPLAINED. And it never will be. Not UNTIL its accounted for as described here in this work. Other authors, professors make similar Dennet-like claims, Susan Blackmore being a vocal one. Everytime their mechanism is the same: Conciousness is either denied outright, laughably demoted or called an illusion. Since they can't fathom it, well its just not real, or nearly so. Where they fail miserably and predictably is that this "illusion" can change the physical world in no such illusory manner. This is not about graceful metaphor, poetic prose or feel good blather. Its the gravity of mind and the disappearing line between "us" and forever whats "out there". Do yourself the favor, buy the book and let the good doctor explain BIOCENTRISM.

We've grown, learned, expanded and come to accept certain "realities" as firm concepts and perceptions. In effect, we've educated ourselves to limit our conceptualization of existence. We've created a "universe" while perceiving the Universe as having created us. After reading this, one is forced to question everything. Even concepts like "everything." Thoroughly enjoyable read. I feel simultaneously smarter and more ignorant as a result.

I think the reason many people are quick to dismiss biocentrism is because it does sound truly ridiculous that if I am not observing then the universe exist only in a state of probability and is not actually "there". It never actually disappears. This is because there is only one consciousness that billions of us share and so everyone is helping to create the universe when you are not observing, and because we share the same consciousness our universe still "exist" when we close our eyes.

He is currently Chief Scientific Officer at Advanced Cell Technology, and Adjunct Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He has several hundred publications and inventions, and 20 scientific books, among them, Principles of Tissue Engineering, which is recognized as the definitive reference in the field. Others include One World: The Health & Survival of the Human Species in the 21st Century (with a foreword by President Jimmy Carter), and the Handbook of Stem Cells and Essentials of Stem Cell Biology, which are considered the definitive references in stem cell research.
