प्रस्तुत उपन्यास ‘रहस्यमय टापू’ अंग्रेजी के प्रख्यात साहित्यकार रॉबर्ट लुइस स्टीवेंसन के प्रसिद्ध अंग्रेजी उपन्यास ‘ट्रैजर आइलैंड’ का हिंदी रूपांतरण है। जब वर्ष 1883 में यह पहली बार प्रकाशित हुआ तब पाठकों के बीच अत्यंत लोकप्रिय हुआ था। यह एक बेहद रोचक-रोमांचक एवं साहसपूर्ण कथा है। उपन्यास का किशोर नायक जिम जिस प्रकार खजाने की खोज में निकलता है और समुद्र के बीच एक निर्जन टापू पर खूँखार डाकुओं का सामना करता है, वहीं कदम-कदम पर हैरतअंगेज घटनाओं से उसका सामना होता है। उपन्यास के मध्य ऐसी रोमांचक घटनाएँ घटती हैं जिन्हें पढ़कर रोंगटे खड़े हो जाते हैं। यह प्रत्येक वय के पाठकों के लिए पठनीय और मनोरंजनपूर्ण है। यह उपन्यास विश्व के अमर ग्रंथों (वर्ल्ड क्लासिक्स) में गिना गया है। प्रकाशन के सवा सौ वर्षों के पश्चात् स्टीवेंसन का यह उपन्यास आज भी अत्यंत लोकप्रिय है।
