van Gulik was a good story teller ss well as first rate scholar. it's been awhile, nbut these stories are old friends and one reads them again with huge pleasure.

I enjoyed these short stories. They were interesting & well-written. It was difficult to really get in to the characters since there wasn't much time to get to know them. I hope to find longer stories with Judge Dee!
